Tour of High Bridge
Yesterday we headed over to New Jersey to do the Tour of High Bridge, road race. It really wasn't much of a road race, but more of a circuit race. It was a 3.3 mile lap and we did 11 or 12 laps (I don't really remember). The course was pretty cool, with a steep pitch that had you grinding gears, a bit of flat, and then it kicked up again. The descent off of the climb was really rough with fresh patch jobs to try and make it better, but I think that usually makes it worse. The rest of the course was rolling and wooded so it made the race fun.
From the gun Guy went and got a good gap instantly and held it for a lap and a half before team member Robbie G. bridged up and the rest of the field soon after that. There were multiple attacks that were going left and right and we always had at least 2 Sakonnet guys in every one of the moves. I think it was on lap 3 that Phil and I found ourselves in a move with 3 other guys and got a good gap. We all started to work well together and the gap stayed around 40 seconds for the most part. On the last lap Phil rode like a champ attacking at every lull in the pace. Roger Aspholm attacked and I followed not realizing we had a good gap with about 700 Meters to go and then I came around him in the finish. It was a good day for us with the guys in the field patrolling every move that tried to go. Phil came in for 5th and Guy took 2nd in the field sprint for 11th. Thanks to all of those guys. Hopefully there will be more updates like this in the next up coming weeks.
